Yes, however each project must be described in separate applications.
Faculty effort is allowable as an expense on all grants in the Pilot Grant Program with the exception of the 5K Seed Grants. Please see the RFA for further details about the types of grants available during each round.
Yes.
MICHR Pilot and Collaborative grants are targeted for junior faculty undertaking new lines of investigation, preferably in combination with other faculty members at the University of Michigan. Senior faculty are eligible to apply but must adequately address two points when submitting an application.
The proposed research project must be a departure from any previous work.
These awards are not meant to serve as bridge funding or as supplementary funding for
existing grants. Therefore, if the 'Other Support' section might suggest to the reviewers that the grant proposal is not responsive to these award specifications, the investigator must explain in explicit detail why the MICHR award would not overlap with current, recent or pending funding.
Preliminary data is NOT required when submitting a pilot proposal; however some applications may contain some preliminary data, thereby strengthening the proposal. If you do not have preliminary data, and are seeking pilot funds to produce preliminary data, please state clearly in your proposal why none has been included and how this funding will enable you to produce preliminary data.
Yes, you can have someone in your department as a peer reviewer. The CTSA Pilot Programs in the country routinely accept faculty members within their institution and colleagues of the PI to be peer reviewers. The only universally accepted criteria for conflict of interest in this case are that the reviewer should (1)not be named on the application as a member of the research team or as a consultant or (2)be in a mentoring role to the principal investigator. When selecting peer reviewers to list on the application, it is recommended that they are informed you will be identifying them as a potential reviewer.
Research proposed should directly involve humans. Research using tissue or other samples from humans, or clinical or physiological data from humans, are also only eligible provided the applicant provides compelling rationale for how the proposed study will lead to research directly involving humans in the next step. Please see more details in the Core Grant Guidelines.
Projects are expected to start within a reasonable amount of time. Any anticipated delays should be communicated to the Scientific Review Committee. If the project is fully dependent on the funds requested, please state this in the application.
All domains of eligible research can be considered for all types of grants.
