Velos eResearch Training at Michigan
MICHR CRIC Operational Support (MCOps)

Velos eResearch training at Michigan is offered by the MICHR CRIC Operational Support (MCOps) team. Once your team has expressed interest in becoming users of Velos eResearch, competencies are required prior to being granted access to the production environment. Acquiring the necessary competencies to access the UM Velos production environment involves completing the following 5 activities:

  1. VELOS 100 course - As a prerequisite to obtaining access to the UM Velos training database, all users must complete Velos 100: Introduction to Velos for UM New Users, a 30-minute, high-level web-based training module. Contact MICHR-support@umich.edu for enrollment details.
  2. Access to UM Velos Training database - Once Velos 100 is completed, contact MICHR-support@umich.edu to obtain access to the UM Velos training database and Velos training study, where you will gain hands-on experience using the application, as you take additional training.
  3. Hands-on Velos experience - In parallel with additional Velos training, users must complete the hands-on Homework Assignment, which provides a sequential check-list guiding the user through the minimum steps required to create a study, enroll patients, enter data, and run reports.
  4. Additional Velos Corporation training - taken in parallel with hands-on work in the UM Velos training database, is available from the Velos Customer Corner commercial web site. For details on how to access this site, contact MICHR-support@umich.edu.

    Detailed, Velos Corporation training covering the major functional areas of the application is available via online, video, or Web-Ex sessions. Online training offers just-in-time training that can be taken at your convenience. Web-Ex training is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays through-out each quarter. As a courtesy to those who may wish to take courses with other UM Velos users, MICHR CRIC Operational Support Team (MCOps) hosts many of the Web-Ex sessions at Domino's farms. Refer to the Training Calendar for the current schedule. Due to limited seating, please RSVP (with TRAINING in the subject line) to the MICHR CRIC Operational Support Team (MCOps): MICHR-support@umich.edu.     Velos User Manuals - To compliment training and hands-on activities, the Velos Customer Corner web site also offers Velos User Manuals (under References), and are helpful learning resources.

    Your Velos training record - You must provide a record of your Velos training completion in order to gain access to the UM Velos Production database. The following Record of Training Completion provides an easy way to keep track of your Velos training.
  5. Submit Form for Access to UM Velos Production - The functional areas of Velos that a team and/or individual will be using is dependent upon their research needs and will dictate the type of training required. Once an individual has completed the training sessions required and their corresponding homework, a user account in the Velos Production instance will be created by MCOps. For IT professionals who require access to the Oracle database, complete the Velos IT Database Account Request Form and FAX to (734) 998-7541.
