REDCap

REDCap is an electronic data capture (EDC) system that is secure, HIPAA compliant, and web-based. This easy-to-use, no-cost tool for University of Michigan clinical researchers is intended to replace Microsoft Excel and Access. Using REDCap's stream-lined process for rapidly developing databases, you may create, design, and manage your research projects online. Further, REDCap provides automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R) as well as a built-in scheduling calendar, ad hoc reporting tools, and advanced electronic data capture form features such as branching logic, file uploading, and calculated fields.

REDCap Access

To obtain your REDCap account, simply complete a brief REDCap 100 Security Awareness module and submit a REDCap Account Access Request Form available electronically at the following link:

REDCap Account Request Form

In accordance with University of Michigan policy, U-M students, staff, and faculty will provide authorization via an electronic signature when they submit their access request. Those from external institutions who desire REDCap access must provide the name and e-mail address of their ‘Authorizing Sponsor’ at the University of Michigan.  When external users submit their Account Access Request Form, the UM Authorizing Sponsor will then receive an e-mailed link to an electronic form and must submit their electronic signature in order to initiate the account provisioning process at MICHR Technical Services.

REDCap Training and PRODUCTION Instances:

You will be given access to two database instances of REDCap: Training and Production, with distinctly different URLs. Please utilize the REDCap Training instance to learn REDCap, experiment with your clinical research study design, and become familiar with all REDCap features. During your use of the REDCap Training instance, please use pseudo (test) data only.

Once all of your training and development activities in the REDCap Training instance are completed, utilize the REDCap Production instance for building and managing your production study database. The REDCap Production instance is strictly reserved for the capture of production data only, including real patient data for your active clinical research study.
